"In 1991 I set out to build a company where I could set ambitious goals, achieve them, enjoy working there for a long time to come, and make money. I wanted to find out if I could build a stable organization and manage it as it evolved. I chose software because that was my background, the Internet because I had three years experience with it and felt that it was going to become important, and personal computers as the platform, because I wanted to develop low-cost software that would appeal to a broad audience."

Mi capita spesso di avere delle visioni, come dei sogni ad occhi aperti. E di aver voglia di condividere queste visioni, di raccontarle. Forse nella speranza di trovare una sorta di consenso, di complicità, di supporto morale ancor prima che materiale. Fatto sta che la maggior parte delle persone alle quali racconto queste mie visioni pensa che io sia un sognatore con una fervida e delirante immaginazione che partorisce una discreta quantità di cazzate. Sono visioni di possibili modi di vivere. Pensavo a quanto sarebbe bello essere capaci di lavorare l'argilla e la ceramica. E fantasticavo sul fatto che mi piacerebbe poter vivere di lavorazione della ceramica, in maniera itinerante. Lavorare la ceramica, riparare biciclette e girare in pista.
Un 'altra visione ricorrente è quella che mi vede sempre itinerante con un westfalia, camperino realizzato su furgoncino della Volkswagen con il tetto che si apre a compasso.
A metterle per iscritto mi sembrano un poco puerili, ma posso assicurare che sono ricorrenti, a tratti insistenti. Poi mi convinco che non sono realizzabili, che non posso vivere come un nomade. Eppure continuo a non esserne convinto. C'è sicuramente una via di mezzo, non riesco a vederla nè ad immaginarla, ma so che c'è.
